How do you reconcile uncompromising taste and a small budget?

The search that ended with the purchase of this Parkdale beauty began with a single word 'weird'. The buyer really didn't know what he was looking for but, he did know this: that it would likely be the one that no one else wanted. It turns out, he was right about that. What ended up as his ideal, forever property was one that even he had ruled out months before coming back to purchase it.

After an intensely active search process, the buyer came to the conclusion that to get the house quality, scale and location he was after, his home search had to turn into an 'easily divisible house' search. This way, by renting out 1/2 the property, he could afford the type of property he envisioned.
